Lake Kaindy
Lake Kaindy (Kaiyndy), located in the Tien Shan mountain system at an altitude of about 1900 meters above sea level, is a natural landmark of Kazakhstan. It was formed in January 1911 after a strong earthquake, which resulted in a mountain collapse that blocked the river - and the valley was filled with water. In the late 80s of the last century, the area of the lake decreased after the passage of a mudflow flood. To date, the length of the reservoir is 400 meters, and the depth is 25 meters.
The natural element has created incredible landscapes of the Chon-Urekty gorge. The tops of fir trees sticking out of the surface of the lake resemble the lifeless expanses of scorched lands. But under the turquoise water you can find perfectly preserved branches and needles. Sunken trees make up only part of the picturesque landscape of the Tien Shan; in translation from the Kazakh "kaiyndy" literally - "abounding in birches". Powerful rocky peaks and birch groves seem to form a natural gateway to unexplored mountain spaces.
